Meadowhawks

It’s always fun to encounter a plant or animal I’ve drawn, and it’s especially fun when all I have to do is step outside my door and there it is. I went outside to water my plants recently, and behold: a meadowhawk dragonfly resting on my moss roses. I am no dragonfly expert, but I do know that mature meadowhawk males are ruby-red, while females and immature males are a golden tan. So this is probably a female taking a break just outside my window and most considerately letting me photograph her!

I took my first bike ride of the spring last week, and sure enough, the pussy willows were in bloom, and the mourning cloak butterflies were on the wing! Lost Moccasins Here is Sophie, a colored pencil commission I did this winter! A commission I had for Christmas--Ace the black lab puppy (in colored pencil, of course). I haven't done much for pet drawings, but I was pleased with Duchess here! (For a friend who raises Aussies) Runaway Sleigh is finished, framed, and on my wall in time for Christmas! Rosemaling the sleigh on my Christmas card drawing (but in colored pencil, not the traditional painting). It's roughly 20 minutes of work condensed into 60 seconds. I'm working on my Christmas card--a Scandinavian theme this year, complete with a yule goat, tomte, and runaway sleigh. Fall colors part 2!
