Description
Lady’s Slippers are often also referred to as Moccasin Flowers, a name befitting these shoe-like, native orchids. The shapes of the flowers varies from species to species, not unlike how the styles and artistry of moccasins changes from people group to people group. The applique technique featured on this slipper is based on a pair of (presumably) Dakota moccasins from Minnesota circa 1860-1900. In the original moccasins, tiny strips and triangles of silk were reverse appliquéed to the moccasin vamp, with a decorative feather stitch embroidered alongside.
Dimensions: 11 x 14 inches
Art is unmatted and unframed.
This is original colored pencil art made with Polychromos Colour Pencils by Faber-Castell, an oil-based colored pencil that contains less wax than most colored pencils and therefore suffers from less wax bloom than most (in which the wax rises to the surface, dulling pigments over time). The pigments are acid-free, with the highest lightfast ratings in the industry. The majority of the colors are rated at the highest fade resistance of 100+ years, with a few rated at 25+ years.
