Description
While the Dala horse may be the most popular of the Swedish animals carved of wood and painted in the Swedish kurbits style, the Dala rooster—known in Swedish as the Dala Tupp—is also common. Like the Dala horse, it originated in Dalarna, Sweden, hence the name Dala.
The sounds people ascribe to animals vary from language to language, and the sound roosters make is no exception. In English, roosters say, “Cocka-doodle-doo,” while in Swedish, they say “Kuckeliki.”
