Isaac and Izzy’s Magical Maples progression
Fall is here, just like in Isaac & Izzy’s Magical Maples!
I can’t believe it’s been two years already since Isaac & Izzy’s Magical Maples (by author Angela Henderson and illustrated by me) was published! Here’s a peek at the making of the final page. Above is the slideshow progression, and below is actual footage of the coloring process. I’ve shared super-speed grass video before, but it still delights me (which I never expected I’d say about the process of coloring grass, but it’s true. And the musical track of Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky adds to it).
About the story:
Autumn is painting the world in vibrant colors, and Isaac and Izzy want to give back to their favorite magical maple tree. A normal present won’t do, though. They want to give him the sweetest gift of all—a friend!
But are all the efforts of the kids and the animals who live near the tree enough to create a bit of magic… or will the Sugar Maple have to lend them a helpful branch once again?
A favor to ask:
If you’ve read Isaac & Izzy’s Magical Maples (or any of the other Isaac books), would you be willing to write a review on Amazon? It can be as long or short as you want – even just a sentence! Reviews (short or long, good OR bad) sell books better than anything else online. Yes, weirdly enough, even unhappy reviews! And to those who have, many thanks from Angela and myself!

It was fun reading about Isaac and his adventures with a magical maple tree. The colors are bright and cheery and the detail on the tree trunk is great. And look for the nuthatch that shows up in the illustrations!
