More Norwegian Fjord horses! I’ve been really enjoying drawing these small draft horses. They look like ponies next to a Clydesdale or Belgian, but they pack a lot of strength in their compact forms. Yes, they are technically from Norway (the southwestern fjord region, specifically), and Dala horses are specifically from Dalarna, Sweden. But the stout Norwegian Fjords look like the very model for a Swedish Dala horse, so once again I mix the two nationalities.
As one might expect, the bigger the drawing, the more time it takes. In order to get the detail I wanted for my Norwegian Fjord Horse reflection, I needed to make it on 18×24″ paper – over four times the size of regular printer paper. It makes for a lot more progress drawings (assuming the progress indicates one day’s worth of work) than an 11×14 drawing – my usual size.
