Once I found out about a couple special Swedish chicken breeds, of course I had to do some more dala rooster drawings. The Svarthöna depicted here are all black: black faces, combs, feathers, even insides – organs, meat, and bones. Of course, black on black on black is a challenge to depict.

As happens when photographing, the colors are a little skewed in the progress photos; not quite as true as the high quality scan of the final drawing. But it is fun to see how a drawing changes from day to day!
